Leather care – How to keep your leather beautiful for a long time
High-quality leather is a natural product that, with proper care, retains its beauty, suppleness, and durability for many years. Regular and gentle care is essential to ensure our fine lambskin vests and other leather products retain their exclusive look and pleasant feel.
Dust and light dirt can be easily removed with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaning agents, as these can dry out the leather or leave stains. To keep the material supple, we recommend applying a special leather care balm regularly. This moisturizes the leather and protects it from cracking. It's important to use the care product sparingly and then polish the leather with a soft cloth.
Direct sunlight and moisture can also damage leather. Intense UV rays lead to fading and drying out over time, while moisture can cause stains or alter the leather's structure. If leather does get wet, it should be allowed to dry slowly in the air. Direct heat sources such as heaters or hair dryers should be avoided at all costs, as they make the material brittle.
Proper storage also plays a crucial role. Leather should always be stored in a dry, well-ventilated place. A breathable garment bag is ideal, especially for vests and jackets, to protect the material from dust and environmental influences while allowing it to breathe. Plastic bags, on the other hand, are unsuitable, as they trap moisture and can damage the leather.
Stains should always be treated immediately to prevent them from penetrating the material. Liquids are best removed by gently dabbing with a dry cloth without rubbing. For grease stains, a little talcum powder or chalk powder can be used, gently applied and then brushed off.
With proper care, leather not only stays supple but also develops a beautiful patina over time, making each piece unique. Those who treat their leather well will enjoy their high-quality products for many years.
